Canon EOS R8 Mark II leak update (Rumor): photos, IBIS, no mechanical shutter, ~$1,799

(Rumor / unconfirmed.) Canon has not announced this camera. Certification-style leak photos now show a body labeled EOS R8 Mark II, a rear joystick, and a side card door. Specs, price, and a rumored Sep 15 NYC window remain unofficial.

Rumor photos: these are leak/cert-style frames, not a Canon press kit. Do not treat them as official product cutouts. No Buy buttons.

Why it exists

This is a rumor cycle, not a Canon briefing. Original EOS R8 owners and entry full-frame shoppers have long wanted the missing R8 pieces: IBIS, a rear AF joystick, and a card slot that is not buried with the battery — while keeping a compact / travel-weight RF body. The circulating leak sheet answers that wishlist with a claimed 7.5-stop IBIS, joystick, side SD door, and a same-class 24MP / 40fps electronic-shutter story, which is why forums keep calling it a “mini R6 II” and arguing price versus used R6 II bodies. Sep 8–9 heat is photo-driven: after mixed reaction to an angular mockup, a Reddit dump of certification-style images (Canon Rumors: “100% real”) made the body feel concrete days before the rumored Sep 15 NYC window — without Canon saying a word. Buyer friction in the rumor itself (LP-E17, single SD, no mechanical shutter, ~$1,799 vs discounted/used R6 II) is part of why the threads stay hot, not proof of final product decisions.

What the leak photos show

Canon has not announced an EOS R8 Mark II. Photos do not prove IBIS, 3D-from-2D video, pricing, or an announce date — only what is visible on the body and LCD in this set.

What is visible (unofficial leak / not Canon marketing): angular EVF hump; top branding EOS R8 Mark II; rear joystick near the EVF; vari-angle LCD; AF-ON; Q/SET; mode dial including Fv, SCN, C1–C3, and S&F; stills/video switch; side SD door; base BATT. OPEN. One live-view frame shows 1/16000, ISO 102400, and an electronic-shutter icon.

Keep the visual split clean: Canon Rumors’ Sep 8 mockup was disclosed as “99% accurate” and likely AI tools. The next-day Reddit dump is the certification-style set used here. Do not swap those labels.

Verdict

Pros

  • If IBIS, a rear joystick, and a side card door land on an R8-class body, that is the wishlist the rumor is answering
  • Leak photos now show a labeled EOS R8 Mark II top plate — more concrete than the Sep 3 spec-only card

Cons

  • Canon is silent; IBIS, 3D-from-2D, $1,799, and Sep 15 NYC are still rumor
  • No mechanical shutter, LP-E17, and single SD are already forum friction versus used R6 II

What changed from prior coverage

Our September 3 rumor card covered IBIS / ~$1,800 / mid-September talk with a current EOS R8 as family context — no Mark II photos. That page is left unchanged as the historical record.

This follow-up is still Rumor. What is new is the certification-style photo set (joystick and side card door now visible; top plate labeled EOS R8 Mark II) and a clearer split between that leak and the labeled mockup. The unofficial sheet is the same family: $1,799, Sep 15 NYC, Oct ship, 24MP, 7.5-stop IBIS, 40 fps electronic / no mechanical. Photos do not newly prove IBIS, 3D-from-2D, or price. Still no Buy, no SKU, no sample gallery.
