Why it exists

OM positions the PEN for everyday, travel, and spontaneous photography — creative color and mono looks, plus 4K / vertical / vlogging — as a compact weather-sealed Micro Four Thirds body with a built-in EVF and in-camera looks. It is the first PEN ILC under the OM SYSTEM brand (not Olympus-badged), framed as an entry-level / everyday option versus the OM-3 / OM-5 class, completing the return of a rangefinder-style PEN with modern IBIS and sealing. Sources do not say it replaces a named current SKU (it is not announced as a PEN-F II successor); it revives the PEN series under OM SYSTEM. The defining tradeoff is a portable sealed rangefinder-style everyday body with EVF, IBIS, profiles, and computational modes at $999.99 versus a more limited 8-bit video ceiling (4K30-class in coverage) and MFT sensor size versus full-frame / APS-C rivals.

Announcement, price, and availability

OM SYSTEM / PR introduced the OM SYSTEM PEN on 9 September 2026. US body MSRP is $999.99 (Silver or Black); CAD body is $1,399.99. Kit with the new 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 III is $1,099.99; double kit adding the 40-150mm F4.0-5.6 R is $1,299.99. Availability is late October 2026 (OM shop: Preorder, Ships Late October) — prefer that over earlier secondary windows.

Verdict

Pros

  • Priced, shipping PEN under OM SYSTEM with EVF, IBIS, IPX1, and in-camera profiles
  • Clear late-October window and kit ladder from $1,099.99

Cons

  • Not framed as a PEN-F II — buyers hoping for that succession story do not get it
  • IPX1 only with a sealed lens; not during charging/HDMI; MFT / 4K30-class video ceiling vs larger-format rivals

What changed from the tease coverage

Our September 3 official tease covered a dated announce window with no specs, no SKU, and no Buy block — teaser stills only, not a product cutout. That page is left unchanged as the historical record.

This follow-up locks what was open then: status is now Official / Real; name, Silver/Black, $999.99 body MSRP, kits, late October ship, EVF, IPX1, 20.37 MP Live MOS, TruePic IX, IBIS, AF, profiles, CP modes, and accessories are newly public. Tease → priced shipping product.
