Sigma positions the 85mm F1.2 DG | Art for studio and environmental portraiture, wedding, fashion, and cinematic video — a medium-tele F1.2 look with dual HLA autofocus for stills and video. It completes the current F1.2 Art Series trio with the 35mm F1.2 DG II | Art and 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art (Sigma JP: the full lineup is finally complete). Sources do not say it replaces or discontinuates the lighter, slower 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art; it is an addition that finishes the F1.2 set. The defining tradeoff is F1.2 rendering plus a claimed class-lightest AF 85/1.2 at 905 g and dual HLA versus heavier native options (PetaPixel cites Nikon Z 85/1.2 ~1160 g and Canon RF 85/1.2 ~1195 g) and versus Sigma’s own 85/1.4. No in-lens OSS. Minimum focus is 84 cm / 1:8.9 — not a close-focus 85.
Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG Art is official — $1,599 US, dealers from October 6
A026 ships for L-Mount and Sony E. US retail cited at $1,599 beginning Oct 6; Japan is open price with a Sep 30 launch. Material follow-up to the Sep 3 in-development brief.

Verdict
Pros
- F1.2 Art trio now complete (35 / 50 / 85) with locked specs and a US street date
- 905 g dual-HLA package vs heavier native 85/1.2 options cited in coverage
Cons
- Does not replace the lighter 85/1.4 DG DN — buyers still choose aperture vs mass
- 84 cm / 1:8.9 min focus; no in-lens OSS; JP open price vs US $1,599 split

What changed from the in-development coverage
Our September 3 in-development brief covered Sigma’s 26 February 2026 development announce: L-Mount and E-mount, planned September, F1.2 trio framing, no price, status In development. That page is left unchanged as the historical record.
This follow-up locks what was open then: status is now Official / Real (JP news 8 Sep 2026 + US coverage); specs are published (905 g, dual HLA, 17/12, 13 blades, φ82 mm, A026, barcodes); US $1,599 and Oct 6 dealer date are newly public; Japan adds Sep 30 launch, open price, and Sep 10 shop pre-order. Mounts stay continuous (L + E). Price, ship window, and status are what flipped — not the trio story.
