Why it exists

Sigma positions the 85mm F1.2 DG | Art for studio and environmental portraiture, wedding, fashion, and cinematic video — a medium-tele F1.2 look with dual HLA autofocus for stills and video. It completes the current F1.2 Art Series trio with the 35mm F1.2 DG II | Art and 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art (Sigma JP: the full lineup is finally complete). Sources do not say it replaces or discontinuates the lighter, slower 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art; it is an addition that finishes the F1.2 set. The defining tradeoff is F1.2 rendering plus a claimed class-lightest AF 85/1.2 at 905 g and dual HLA versus heavier native options (PetaPixel cites Nikon Z 85/1.2 ~1160 g and Canon RF 85/1.2 ~1195 g) and versus Sigma’s own 85/1.4. No in-lens OSS. Minimum focus is 84 cm / 1:8.9 — not a close-focus 85.

Sigma Japan published the official product and news pages on 8 September 2026 for the 85mm F1.2 DG | Art (A026) in L-Mount and Sony E-mount. US coverage (PetaPixel, Lens Rumors) cites authorized dealers from October 6, 2026 at $1,599. Japan lists オープンプライス (open price), a domestic launch of 30 September 2026, and Sigma JP online-shop pre-order from 10 September 2026, 10:00. Do not collapse those into one global MSRP.
