Sigma BF review: a radically simple full-frame L-Mount camera
Sigma's pared-down full-frame L-Mount camera, launched in 2025 at $1,999. Who it suits: photographers who want a design-led everyday camera with few controls.
October 25, 2026 · Camera · Review
HIGHLIGHTS
Why it exists. The BF is a 24.6MP full-frame L-Mount mirrorless camera pared down to essentials: a unibody "carved from a single, solid block of aluminum over the course of seven hours", three haptic buttons and one dial, 230 GB of internal memory and no card slot. Sigma pitches it as "a radically simple camera that evokes the essence of photography" (Sigma).
It follows Sigma's fp line as a design-led everyday camera.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants a simple full-frame body with strong colour output and can live without a viewfinder, IBIS or a grip.
The story
Sigma America announced the BF on February 24, 2025: "The Sigma BF will retail for $1,999 and be available in April 2025." Sigma released firmware Ver.1.04 on February 19, 2026.
L-Mount Forum owners report fast startup and AF and praise the JPEGs and DNG colour. They also note no EVF, a screen that is hard to see in bright sun, no grip, no IBIS and short battery life: "It's battery hungry so you need extra batteries"; "there's no IBIS and it really needs a hand grip".
We could not find any openly licensed sample photos taken with the Sigma BF, so this review has no gallery of our own. To see what it can do, browse the sample images on Sigma's BF product page.
