HIGHLIGHTS
Why it exists. The FE 50-150mm F2 GM is a constant-F2 telephoto zoom in Sony's G Master line, meant to stand in for several fast primes for portrait, event and low-light work. Sony gives its size as "approximately 7-7/8 inches (200 mm) in length and weighing approximately 47.3 ounces (1,340g)" (Sony release, Apr 22, 2025).
Who should buy it? Portrait, wedding and event shooters on Sony E-mount who want F2 across 50 to 150mm and can carry the weight.
The story
Sony announced the lens on April 22, 2025: "The FE 50-150MM F2 GM will be available in May 2025 for approximately $3,899 USD and $5,499 CAD."
On Fred Miranda, posters compare it with the 135mm F1.8 GM (1,340 g vs 1,030 g). They say the lack of OSS hurts video and that cost is the main drawback; some prefer its rendering to the 135 GM and mention the expensive 95mm filters. Owners in a second thread say it is easy to handhold and works for low-light dance.
