HIGHLIGHTS
Why it exists. Sony's third-generation RX1R puts "a 61-megapixel 35 mm full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor, the latest BIONZ XR™ image processing engine, and a ZEISS® Sonnar T* 35 mm F2 lens" into a fixed-lens compact (Sony release, July 15, 2025).
It is built for street, travel and everyday shooters who want full-frame files from the smallest possible package and accept a fixed 35mm lens.
Who should buy it? Someone who shoots mostly at 35mm and values size over zoom range and lens choice.
The story
Sony announced the RX1R III on July 15, 2025, saying it "will be available in July 2025 for approximately $5,099.99 USD and $6,299.99 CAD."
On Fred Miranda, owners weigh it against the Leica M11P. One poster calls it expensive and notes it has no IBIS, no tilt screen and no internal memory, but says it is the smallest full-frame package. In another thread, posters note warmer colour and say the 35mm F2 Sonnar resolves little more than before off-centre at 61MP.
