Canon EOS RP vs R50
Two small RF-mount bodies on the same LP-E17 battery, with a 0.39-inch 2.36M-dot finder; neither lists in-body stabilization. The 2019 EOS RP is the full-frame one: 26.2MP, a UHS-II slot, a headphone jack and dust and water resistance. The 2023 EOS R50 is the newer APS-C one: DIGIC X with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II subject detection, 12 to 15 fps, uncropped 4K/30p oversampled from 6K, a pop-up flash and about 375 g with battery and card.

Who should buy which
Buy the EOS RP if…
- You want full frame: a 26.2MP sensor and full-frame RF lenses at their native angle of view.
- You want a UHS-II card slot, a headphone jack and a body Canon lists as dust- and water-resistant.
- You mostly shoot stills at a steady pace, where about 5 fps is enough.
Buy the EOS R50 if…
- You shoot kids, pets or sport: Dual Pixel CMOS AF II subject detection and 12 to 15 fps.
- You shoot video: uncropped 4K/30p oversampled from 6K and 120p high frame rate in Full HD.
- You want the lighter body (about 375 g vs 485 g with battery and card) with a pop-up flash.
Both are small RF-mount bodies on the LP-E17 with a 2.36M-dot finder, and neither lists in-body stabilization, so the choice is a full-frame sensor, UHS-II, a headphone jack and sealing against newer autofocus, faster bursts, better 4K and less weight. Canon's finder magnifications for a full-frame and an APS-C body aren't directly comparable. See our full EOS RP review and EOS R50 guide, or all comparisons.
