Fujifilm X-M5 vs X-T30 III: which to buy?

Two small Fujifilm X-mount bodies built around the same 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-Processor 5. The X-T30 III adds an OLED viewfinder; the X-M5 is smaller and lighter and gets slightly more frames per charge.

Why it exists. This page is for buyers deciding whether a viewfinder is worth choosing the X-T30 III over the X-M5. Both use the same 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-Processor 5, so the viewfinder, size and handling are the real differences.

Who should buy which

Get the X-M5 if

  • You compose on the rear screen and want the smallest, lightest body: about 355 g.
  • You want slightly more frames per charge: about 330 vs 315.
  • You want the same sensor and processor for less bulk.

Get the X-T30 III if

  • You want an eye-level viewfinder: a 2.36M-dot OLED EVF.
  • You shoot in bright light, where a screen is hard to see.
  • You don't mind about 23 g more weight for the EVF.
