Who should buy which
Buy the a6700 if…
- You shoot birds, insects or vehicles: AI subject recognition from the AI processing unit.
- You shoot video and want 4K up to 120p (cropped) or 4K/60 from the full sensor width.
- You want the lighter body: about 493 g vs about 658 g with battery and card.
Buy the a7 IV if…
- You want a full-frame sensor and 33MP for more cropping room and shallower depth of field.
- You shoot events or weddings and want two card slots, including CFexpress Type A.
- You want the sharper 3.69M-dot finder and a full-size HDMI port.
Both bodies use the NP-FZ100, 5-axis in-body stabilization, 10-bit 4:2:2 video and the same 1.04M-dot fully articulating screen, so the choice is sensor size, two card slots and the finder versus AI autofocus, 4K/120p and weight. See our full a6700 review and a7 IV guide, or all comparisons.
