Sony a7 V vs a7R VI

The a7 V is Sony's 33MP all-rounder. It's the better buy for most hybrid shooters at $2,899. The a7R VI costs $4,499.99, and that buys 66.8MP, 8K video and a sharper 9.44M-dot viewfinder. It's for landscape, studio and detail work.

Who should buy which

Get the a7 V if

You shoot a mix of everything, including events, travel and video.

Get the a7R VI if

Resolution comes first: landscapes, architecture, studio and heavy cropping.
You want 8K, an extra stop of stabilization and a much sharper viewfinder.

Same either way: 30 fps bursts and almost the same weight (695 g vs 713 g). See our full a7 V and a7R VI reviews.
