HIGHLIGHTS
Why it exists. The X half is a 240 g fixed-lens compact built around the half-frame film idea: vertical 3:4 shooting, a Frame Advance Lever and a "Film Camera Mode". Fujifilm calls it "a digital camera evolving from the concept of classic half-frame cameras" and "a perfect companion for both photography enthusiasts and newcomers exploring the world of digital cameras for the first time" (Fujifilm).
There is no direct predecessor. It fills a fun, film-feel pocket-camera niche next to the X100VI, and firmware 2.00 (Fuji Rumors, Sep 30, 2026) renewed interest.
Who should buy it? Someone who wants the feel of a half-frame film camera in digital form and does not need RAW files.
The story
Fujifilm announced the X half on May 22, 2025. Fujifilm North America said it was "expected to be available late June 2025 at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $849.99 USD and $998.99 CAD."
PetaPixel lists its cons as "Lack of RAW support and limited manual control", "Slow performance, sluggish autofocus, and processing delays" and "High price point relative to hardware capabilities" (PetaPixel). On Fred Miranda, one poster wrote "No RAW shooting is a negative, but not a dealbreaker" and another called it "Really fun to shoot with."
