The L-Mount Air set is no longer a booth tease — the four compact autofocus primes are orderable now at street prices that stay under two hundred dollars. B&H lists the AF 14mm f/4 Air L and AF 50mm f/2 Air L at $199, the AF 20mm f/2.8 L at $176, and the AF 40mm f/2.5 L at $168, all In Stock on the morning of Sep 23. That is the everyday-wide-to-fifty kit Lumix and Leica shooters have been asking for: STM AF, full-frame coverage, USB-C firmware, and barrels light enough that the whole quartet still weighs less than many single fast zooms.
This is Air’s expansion onto L after the earlier AF 16mm F1.8 L, not a replacement for the E and Z Air SKUs already on shelves. You trade speed for carry — F4 to F2, not Pro-glass apertures — and you get a complete 14–50mm walkaround set. Maker PDPs are live with L cutouts; independent optical tests of production L copies are still ahead.
Why it exists / What it’s for. Travel, landscapes, interiors & group shots (14mm F4); landscapes, architecture, vlogging, interiors (20mm F2.8); street, travel, portraits, everyday storytelling (40mm F2.5); portraits, street, everyday / lower light (50mm F2). Lineup position: Air series expansion to L-Mount after Viltrox’s AF 16mm F1.8 L — a compact 14–50mm AF prime ladder for L Alliance bodies that does not replace existing E/Z Air retail SKUs. Defining tradeoff: size / price / portability (159–205 g, sub-$200 street) versus modest maximum apertures (F4–F2).
