Fujifilm X100V vs X100VI: which to buy?

Two generations of Fujifilm's fixed-lens X100. Both use the same 23mm F2 lens with a built-in ND filter, the same hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder and the same tilting touchscreen. The X100VI adds a 40.2MP sensor, the series' first in-body stabilization, subject-detection AF and 6.2K video; the X100V is a little lighter and slimmer.

Who should buy which

Buy the X100V if…

  • You shoot mostly in good light and don't need in-body stabilization.
  • You want the lighter, slimmer body: about 478 g vs 521 g with battery and card, and 53.3 mm vs 55.3 mm deep.
  • You use the EVF a lot: about 350 EVF shots per charge vs 310 (CIPA, Normal mode).

Buy the X100VI if…

  • You want in-body stabilization (5-axis, 6.0 stops) for slow shutter speeds in low light.
  • You want 40.2MP for cropping and large prints.
  • You want subject-detection AF, 6.2K or 4K/60p 10-bit video, and 20 Film Simulations.
  • You use the optical finder a lot: about 450 OVF shots per charge vs 420 (CIPA, Normal mode).

Both cameras share the 23mm F2 lens, built-in ND filter, hybrid viewfinder and tilting screen, so the choice is mostly stabilization, resolution, autofocus and video. See our full X100V review and X100VI guide, or all comparisons.
