Who should buy which
Buy the GR IV if…
- It has to fit a jacket pocket: about 262 g and 32.7 mm deep.
- You shoot street at 28mm and like zone focusing: Snap focus at preset distances, plus 35mm and 50mm crop modes.
- You want built-in storage: about 53GB internal plus a microSD slot.
Buy the X100VI if…
- You want a viewfinder: the hybrid finder switches between optical and a 3.69M-dot EVF.
- You prefer 35mm framing and want 40.2MP for cropping, an F2 lens and a 4-stop ND.
- You want one camera for travel stills and clips: 6.2K and 4K/60p 10-bit video, subject detection and a tilting screen.
Both have 5-axis in-body stabilization and a built-in ND filter, so the choice is pocketability, 28mm and Snap focus versus a viewfinder, 35mm, 40MP and real video. Ricoh's "six shutter steps" and Fujifilm's "6.0 stops" are each maker's own rating and may not use the same test conditions. See our full GR IV and X100VI guides, or all comparisons.
