Who should buy which
Buy the a6100 if…
- You shoot mostly stills for family, travel and learning: same sensor, AF, 11 fps and flip-up screen.
- You want a few more shots per charge: about 380 / 420 vs 360 / 410 (CIPA, viewfinder / LCD).
Buy the a6400 if…
- You work through the viewfinder a lot: 2.36M dots vs 1.44M.
- You grade video: picture profiles with S-Log2, S-Log3 and HLG.
- You shoot long bursts: about 46 RAW frames of buffer vs 33.
- You want Sony's sensor anti-dust system.
Both bodies share the 24.2MP sensor, 425-point AF with Real-time Eye AF, 11 fps, the flip-up touchscreen, 4K/30p and one UHS-I slot, and neither has in-body stabilization. See our full a6100 and a6400 reviews, or all comparisons.
