Who should buy which
Buy the a6700 if…
- You shoot birds, insects or vehicles: AI subject recognition from its AI processing unit.
- You shoot video: 4K up to 120p, 4K/60 oversampled from 6K, 10-bit 4:2:2 and a vari-angle screen.
- You want the lighter body: about 493 g vs about 650 g with battery and card.
Buy the a7 III if…
- You want a full-frame sensor for shallower depth of field and wider-angle use of full-frame lenses.
- You shoot events or weddings and want two card slots.
- You want more shots per charge: about 710 vs 570 (CIPA, screen).
Both bodies use the NP-FZ100, a 2.36M-dot finder and 5.0-stop in-body stabilization, so the choice is mostly sensor size, two card slots and battery life versus AI autofocus, video and weight. See our full a6700 review and a7 III guide, or all comparisons.
