Why it exists. FUJIFILM North America's release quotes Victor Ha: "X-H2 delivers exceptional image resolution and quality that are ideal for those creating images in super-high detail." Fujifilm pairs the 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor with X-Processor 5 for 8K/30p internal Apple ProRes, a 1/180,000 s electronic shutter and 160MP Pixel Shift Multi Shot.
Fujifilm launched the X-H2 in September 2022 at $1,999.95 body-only, three months after the X-H2S. Both share the body, 7-stop IBIS, 5.76M-dot finder and CFexpress slot; the X-H2 swaps the stacked 26MP chip for a 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR. That brings 8K/30p with internal ProRes, an electronic shutter that reaches 1/180000 s, and a Pixel Shift mode that merges frames into 160MP files. The trade-offs against the X-H2S are speed (15 fps mechanical and 20 fps electronic with a 1.29x crop, against 40 fps) and slower readout.
Our gallery comes from three photographers: acorns and a walnut shot with the XF60mm macro, an aurora over an Austrian lake, a Mill Pond panorama, the Northampton Street Bridge and the beach at Half Moon Cay. Who should buy it? Landscape, studio, product and hybrid video shooters who want APS-C resolution. Owners on FredMiranda debated face/eye tracking at launch, and one 2026 thread weighs moving to Sony for fast-moving children; action shooters should read our X-H2S review.
