HIGHLIGHTS

Why it exists. Nikon calls it "our most portable f/2.8 standard zoom ever" (Nikon USA's product page). It is the bright, constant-aperture step up from the DX kit zoom, covering 24–75mm equivalent.

Vibration reduction is rated at 5.0 stops (CIPA, on the Z50II), it focuses down to 0.15 m at 16mm, and the control ring is clickless for video.

Who should buy it? A DX Z shooter who wants one everyday zoom that works in lower light and still keeps the camera small.

The story

Nikon USA announced the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR on October 16, 2025, at $899.95, with availability from late October 2025.

It weighs 11.7 oz / 330 g, according to Nikon USA. The 16-50mm range gives a 24–75mm equivalent field of view on DX bodies, at f/2.8 throughout.

On BCG Forums the announcement thread covered it alongside a second new DX lens, with Z50II users discussing pre-orders.
