Sony a7C vs a7 III: which to buy?
Two Sony full-frame bodies built around the same 24.2MP back-illuminated sensor, 693-point AF, 10 fps and 5-stop IBIS. The a7C puts them in a smaller, lighter body with a vari-angle screen and longer battery life; the a7 III keeps a bigger viewfinder, a 1/8000 s mechanical shutter and two card slots.

Who should buy which
Buy the a7C if…
- You want full frame in the smallest, lightest body: about 509 g vs 650 g with battery and card.
- You vlog or shoot at odd angles and want a fully articulating touchscreen.
- You want a little more battery life: about 680 viewfinder shots vs 610 (CIPA).
Buy the a7 III if…
- You want a bigger viewfinder: about 0.78x vs 0.59x.
- You shoot events and want two card slots for backup.
- You use fast lenses in bright light and want a 1/8000 s mechanical shutter.
Both bodies share the 24.2MP Exmor R sensor, 693-point AF, 10 fps, 5-stop IBIS and the NP-FZ100 battery, so the choice is mostly size, viewfinder, screen and card slots. See our full a7C review and a7 III guide, the a7 III vs a7 IV comparison, or all comparisons.
