HIGHLIGHTS
Canon put a press release on the EOS R8 Mark II. The body is the lightest EOS with in-body stabilization, still on a 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor, with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, Register People Priority, a rear multi-controller joystick, and electronic bursts up to 40 frames a second with pre-continuous capture. Canon U.S.A. MSRP is $1,899 for the body and $2,099 with the RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM; Canon U.S.A. said late October (Sep 15 release).
The original R8’s biggest missing piece was IBIS; that checkbox is the story for travel and everyday full-frame shooters who did not want R6-class size or price. Canon USA describes 5-axis sensor-shift IBIS with Coordinated Control; Canon Malaysia and CR marketing also quote up to 7.5 stops Coordinated Control IS with compatible RF lenses — cite both, and do not collapse that to “7.5-stop IBIS” alone. The new angular body is already splitting Fred Miranda threads between “finally modern” and “too Sony.” Same announce: optional EG-E2 extension grip at $99.99 MSRP and Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2 at $379.
Intended use is compact full-frame stills and video for advanced hobbyists, creators, and newcomers stepping into full-frame — travel-friendly with Dual Pixel AF II tracking, beginner-facing Creative Assist / Filmtone filters, plus uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K 60p and FHD 180p. Canon Malaysia and CR call it a refresh / successor / redesign of the EOS R8; it is not positioned as the sports or wildlife answer versus R6 / R5 / R1 class. The defining tradeoff is lightest EOS with IBIS and a joystick in a compact LP-E17 / single UHS-II SD package versus dual cards, bigger batteries, and R6-class ergonomics — optional EG-E2 adds height, not power.

This follow-up is official: Canon USA PR (Sep 15 ~9:15pm ET) and Canon Malaysia product/news; body MFR 7503C002 / kit 7503C010; confirmed MSRP $1,899 / $2,099 / EG-E2 $99.99 / EL-5 Ver.2 $379; Canon U.S.A. said late October (Sep 15 release). IBIS is labeled both ways — 5-axis (USA PR / B&H) and up to 7.5-stop Coordinated Control IS (MY / CR).
