Who should buy which

Buy the R6 Mark II if…

  • You shoot stills and 24MP is enough for your prints and crops.
  • You want to keep using SD cards in both slots.
  • Battery life and weight matter: about 760 shots per charge (LCD) and 29 g lighter.

Buy the R6 Mark III if…

  • You want 32.5MP to crop wildlife and sport.
  • You shoot video: internal 7K raw, 7K open gate, 4K/120 and a full-size HDMI port.
  • You want less rolling shutter in electronic-shutter bursts.

Watch-outs from our guides: the Mark III has no fan and PetaPixel saw 4K/60 Fine stop after 28 minutes; the Mark II's micro HDMI port is fragile (PCMag). Cross-shopping Sony? See R6 Mark III vs a7 V, a7 IV vs R6 Mark II or R6 vs R6 Mark II.
